This entry is a reminder to complete an Injury On Duty form for any injuries received whilst on duty or travelling to or from work. (No matter how insignificant you may feel they may be.) And also to report such injuries to the DWP (Department of Working Pensions) to ensure that they record it under their rules.
This will serve to assist you, in future months/years should your injury cause you difficulties, or you seek an Injury on Duty award upon retirement.
If your symptoms persist after 3 months you should request form BI100A to apply for consideration for Industrial Injuries Benefit payable by them to you. Whilst serving this is over and above your salary.
IN ORDER TO PROCESS ANY INJURY ON DUTY CLAIM VIA THE DWP THE INCIDENT/ACCIDENT MUST HAVE BEEN RECORDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH FORCE POLICY SO IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU HAVE CORRECTLY COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED THE FORM ( REPORT OF AN INCIDENT/ACCIDENT/INJURY AT WORK) WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TIMESCALES. THIS IS BECAUSE THE DWP IS OBLIGED TO CHECK WITH YOUR EMPLOYER THAT SUCH A RECORD EXISTS BEFORE CONSIDERING A CLAIM.
Any injury received at any sport or game will not be regarded as an injury on duty, unless the sporting activity is part of a training programme or otherwise carried out in duty time under a specific order (e.g. PSU training).
In respect of any injury suffered by you (whether or not incurred on duty) you should notify the Joint Branch Board office with a view to obtaining advice as to the possibility of a civil claim and/or a claim under the criminal injuries compensation scheme.
