“Let’s make our voices heard,” says Staffordshire Police Federation chair Lee Robinson as he encouraged members to complete the annual pay and morale survey.

The survey is launched today and aims to help the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) find out the views of frontline officers on a range of key issues.

PFEW will then use the findings to support its ongoing campaigns for fair remuneration for officers and for an independent pay mechanism.

Lee said: “The cost of living crisis hasn’t gone away and continues to have a huge impact on our members, who have also seen their pay decrease in real terms over the past decade and more.

“That along with the scrutiny officers face and the seemingly endless headlines are all bound to have an impact on members’ morale.

“Which is why we’re asking members to complete the survey so we can get a complete picture of the issues for frontline police officers.

“We’ll use the results in our campaigning work for fairer pay and conditions, and we’ll share them with chief officers and ministers so they understand what members are facing.

“I’d encourage members to complete the survey and make our voices heard.”

The survey is open until Monday 11 December.

Last year’s survey found that 83 per cent of South Wales Police respondents were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with their pay, while 16 per cent reported never or almost never having enough money to cover all their essentials.

Some 56 per cent of respondents said their morale was low or very low, with 90 per cent saying that morale within the force was low or very low.

And 13 per cent said they intended to resign from the service in the next two years, with morale, better job opportunities outside policing and how the police are treated by the Government the main reasons.
