Samantha Jackson says she wanted to be a workplace rep because she wants a better understanding of Police Regulations and what the Federation can offer.
She wants to specialise in conduct and performance and equality so she can support her colleagues more specifically.
Samantha joined the Force in 2013 after being attracted by the range and diversity of police work – saying “every day is different”. She became a Fed rep in August 2021.
She explains what she sees as some of the role’s highs and lows: “I like representing and supporting members. But I know the most challenging aspects is ensuring I have the knowledge to represent officers and encouraging them to ask for that support and help.
“Many officers still do not know what the Fed has to offer.”
Samantha, who is a sergeant, believes one of the biggest challenges ahead for the police service is the increase in demand but the decrease in experienced officer numbers.
She says: “The uplift in recruitment of student officers is much needed and will definitely benefit the police service,” adding that her advice for new officers just joining the Force would be: “Make sure you join the Federation Group Insurance Scheme – you never know when you may need it!”
