Staffordshire Police Federation members are being urged to consider standing as workplace representatives with a number of vacancies opening up because of retirements and promotions.

Nominations are open from now until Monday 23 May and anyone interested can speak to the current workplace reps or branch secretary Glyn Pattinson to get an idea of what the role entails.

Glyn said: “Being a workplace rep can be challenging but it is also incredibly rewarding and it also offers much more in terms of personal and professional development.

“Being a workplace rep is about fair representation and being able to advocate on behalf of colleagues. Most candidates put themselves forward for the same reason they  joined the police:  a desire to do the right thing and help people.”

Full training is provided for all work-based reps and begins with a basic four-day induction course and then opens up to further opportunities to specialise in areas such as conduct and performance, equality, post-incident procedures plus health and safety.

Members who are interested in finding out more can email Glyn at gpattinson@staffs.polfed.org.
