Staffordshire detectives are being urged to have their say on the impact of changes by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to legal guidance on charging criminal cases.

It’s more than 12 months since the changes were made and Glyn Pattinson, secretary of Staffordshire Police Federation and chair of the Police Federation National Detectives’ Forum (PFNDF), is encouraging detectives to complete a short survey examining their effect.

Glyn said: “We know the changes have not been without impact to individual detectives and teams. We’re aware they’ve had a knock-on effect on their workloads, on preparation time for case files and, ultimately, on the time they are able to spend investigating crime and the length of investigations.

“But we need to build a complete picture and to fully understand how the changes have impacted on officers, their work and their wellbeing.

“We can then use the evidence gathered when raising the issue with chief officers, police and crime commissioners, MPs, the Home Office and the Government.

“I would urge detectives and investigators to complete this short survey. It really won’t take long but it would be a great help to the Detectives’ Forum.”

The survey is open now until 9am on Monday 7 February.
