A conference highlighting the latest advances and best practices in policing our roads takes place next week - and Staffordshire Police Federation members are being urged to get involved.

The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) Roads Policing Conference 2021 is open to Federation members and workplace representatives for the first time - and organisers are keen to get as many as possible to take part.

A virtual event along similar lines to this year’s successful annual conference, it will offer members who register but cannot make it on Wednesday 29 September the chance to catch up via an on-demand service, available for 30 days afterwards.

Staffordshire Police Federation branch chair Phil Jones said: “Roads policing is such a key area of the service and I would encourage as many of our members as possible to register to take part.

“The conference covers a range of interesting topics and is an ideal way for officers to keep up to date with advances in technology and equipment, to look at best practice and discuss any relevant changes in the law and the impact they might be having.

“It also gives members a chance to discuss their experiences and to hear from colleagues. Despite being online again, it offers a chance to meet up and swap new ideas.”

The timetable features keynote speeches from national Police Federation representatives and officials, live panel discussions and Q & As on critical areas of focus for roads policing, continuing professional development certified sessions on the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill and a live operational roads policing exercise.

The winner of the PFEW Outstanding Contribution to Roads Policing Award will also be announced during the conference.

The event will again be hosted by talkRADIO presenter Ian Collins and will feature addresses from national chair John Apter, National roads policing lead Gemma Fox, policing minister Kit Malthouse and shadow policing minister Sarah Jones.
