A number of members who have received help and support from Staffordshire Police Federation have now shown their appreciation by becoming workplace Federation representatives themselves.
Federation branches across England and Wales held their triennial elections over the summer and the newly-elected members of the Staffordshire Police Federation Branch Council has now met for the first time.
Fifteen of the 24 workplace representatives elected are new to the role, which Federation secretary Glyn Pattinson makes it an exciting time for the branch.
He explained: “We have the most diverse group we have ever had with all areas of the Force covered. We have officers from all ranks, with different experiences and specialisms, but they have one common goal and that is to support and help colleagues in times of need. They all want to make Staffordshire Police a better place to work.
“It is great to see that many of our new reps are actually colleagues we have supported previously and have seen first-hand the true value of the Federation. They are now keen to repay that support by helping others.
“The fact that we have such a variety of colleagues on the Branch Council will hopefully make it far easier to engage and interact with our members. It’s essential that we are as visible and accessible as possible and it is just as important that we have a broad range of views and opinions when we meet together.”
The new reps will undertake the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) induction course in the coming months and will be trained in conduct and performance, equality, and health and safety. They can then undertake a series of courses if they wish to specialise as part of a Federation commitment to ensure all reps can offer professional help and support to members.
Glyn added: “We welcome these new reps to our branch and look forward to seeing them develop in their roles so they can offer the best possible service to the officers who turn to the Federation for guidance at their time of need.”
The next stage of the Fed rep elections will be Branch Board nominations (October 1 to 15) followed by the elections (October 18 to 29) with the Branch Board elected on 1 November.
Nominations for the branch chair (November 1 to 21) will be followed branch chair elections (November 17 to 30) with the branch chair elected on 1 December.
This will be followed by Branch Board meetings to elect the secretary, treasurer and other officials.
