Staffordshire Police Federation has welcomed Ben Adams as the county’s newly elected Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC).
Mr Adams, who has lived in Staffordshire for more than 30 years, takes over from Matthew Ellis and has been involved in politics for 15 years, serving as a Conservative local and county councillor.
Phil Jones, chair of Staffordshire Police Federation, said: “I welcome the new PFCC and look forward to working with him on behalf of my members; their welfare is paramount. I read with interest his commitment to recruiting a further 250 officers which is a welcome pledge and something I hope is delivered to keep our communities safer.
“The demands placed on the police service are huge in terms of mental health, social care and vulnerability so I am especially keen to work with him to explore ways to reduce this demand to the frontline and work effectively with stakeholders.”
In addition to the recruitment plans, Mr Adams’ campaign manifesto included increased cash for frontline police and fire rescue and using cutting edge technology to further reduce crime. He also believes communication can be improved through the 101 non-emergency service and hopes to reduce costs and share back office services between the police and fire services in order to invest in more specialist staff and equipment.
After the results of last Thursday’s election were announced, he said: “I’m honoured the people of the county have put their faith in me and I can’t wait to get started and ensure that local people’s concerns and priorities are heard and acted upon.”
