Members are being encouraged to talk about their debt and money worries for the good of their mental health.
The advice comes from Staffordshire Police Federation chair Phil Jones at the start of Debt Awareness Week, which aims to open up the conversation around debt and encourage people who need help or advice to seek it out.
“These are difficult times,” Phil said, “The pandemic has put a strain on many aspects of our lives, including our finances. Worrying about your finances and debt issues can really impact your mental health.
“But talking about your problems can help relieve debt-related stress and give you confidence to get help and advice.
“It’s important to talk about your money issues before your situation gets worse,” added Phil, who is also the Federation’s wellbeing lead.
Police Mutual, which provides financial services and welfare support to the police service, has produced a guide for members to mark Debt Awareness Week, which starts today.
