Officers are being encouraged to sign up to the Police Treatment Centres’ (PTC) first ever virtual 100km bike ride in May to raise some much-needed funds for the national charity.
Back on the Beat will be returning in May and Staffordshire Police Federation secretary Glyn Pattinson says he hopes to see as many Federation members as possible signed up to the event especially since they can do it from their own home.
The annual fund-raiser usually takes place at the Police Treatment Centre in Harrogate, and around North Yorkshire, however, in light of the ongoing pandemic, organisers have been forced to adapt this year’s ride.
“With participants able to complete this challenge from the comfort of their living room, they don’t have any excuse not to take part,” said Glyn, who is secretary of the Federation’s Welfare Fund and also chairs the Force Sports Association.
“Whether they fancy doing it on a static bike or have a ride safely around their local area, I hope to see a good amount of our Fed members’ names on that sign-up list.”
Participants will have seven days to complete the bike ride, with it launching on 10 May and finishing on 16 May.
The PTC has two centres but they are both closed due to the pandemic although remote support is being offered. They support the police family with physical and psychological injuries, conditions and illnesses.
“It’s vital we continue to raise money for charities like the PTC and signing up to Back on the Beat is a great way to do just that,” added Glyn.
Participants can sign up for the Back to the Beat sportive individually, or as a group and those who complete the event will receive a medal. Entry to the ride is £10, with all riders or teams pledging to raise a minimum of £100.
